The New York Times says it will put "a unique lens" on Australian life and style when it launches a local edition of its T Magazine.
The quarterly print magazine with a $14.95 cover price will be supported by a "dynamic" online publication, the publisher says.
Australian journalist Katarina Kroslakova will be publisher and editor of the T Australia which will launch in early 2021.
Around the world, the NYT's T Magazine is published 11 times a year - covering fashion, culture, beauty, design and travel - with licensed editions in China, Japan, Singapore and Qatar.
T Australia is published through a licensing agreement. Kroslakova says a local spin will explore how Australians are feeling now, what they are wearing, where they would like to travel to next, what they like to eat and drink, and which live performances they plan to see next.
"The New York Times has a significant digital readership in Australia, so it makes sense to serve this influential audience content that's even more relevant to them - with local authority and global context," she says.
"With the current gap in the market, I feel the time is right to introduce a new magazine to Australia - and I can't think of a more prestigious brand than The New York Times."
Kroslakova says she came to Australia from Czechoslovakia when she was eight and I didn't speak a word of English. "Now I have the honour of publishing a magazine for this global icon; it's something that I couldn't have ever imagined."
