Owners Verizon Media are reported to be ready for another crack at the Australian market with HuffPost, almost two years after the end of the joint venture with Fairfax Media.

The Australian has quotes global managing editor James Martin that it is "the right time" to invest in the market again. Carly Williams has been recruited as senior editor as part of what it calls a broader attempt to reinvest and revive the local team and its coverage.

Martin says HuffPost is looking for opportunities to build its audience and sees an opportunity in the presence it previously had in Australia, describing the two years that have passed as "a lifetime".

A more modest operation will focus on creating "a lifestyle offering for the Australian public", and providing news coverage around "local pillars" of identity, sustainability and lifestyle.

Williams, who previously worked for Verizon's content agency RYOT Studio, will be joined by Alicia Vrajlal as editor and two others.
