Yes, you probably knew Koenig & Bauer make the presses that print banknotes… but did you know they were helping users to know when to hold ’em and when to fold’em?

The German-headquartered printing and packaging machinery maker has recently announced a partnership with gamified digital learning expert Doshi to build a world-first integrated financial literacy ecosystem.

Doshi’s expertise will be teamed with the global experience of Koenig & Bauer’s banknote solutions division to promote responsible financial behaviour.

Together, the two companies are developing integrated learning and monitoring solutions designed to support central banks, financial institutions, and policymakers in promoting responsible financial behaviours across all ages. The partnership aims to help individuals and institutions understand, measure and improve financial capability.

Koenig & Bauer’s note-printing expertise is legendary: This specimen ‘Jules Verne banknote’ was inspired by the works of the French author and created especially for a 2005 trade fair by specialist designer Renato Manfredi. It incorporates more than 90 security features, including some unusual ones like latent imaging on the back of the note.

Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions head of education & life skill development Sina Grebrodt says financial literacy is not a one-time lesson: “It’s a lifelong journey.

“With Doshi, we are building the data foundation that allows central banks and educational authorities to not only teach, but to track and understand how people make financial decisions – from childhood saving to adult investment behaviour.”

The joint initiative is designed to complement national financial inclusion and literacy strategies. Beyond youth education, the initiative extends to professional development and workforce training, equipping employees in financial institutions and public sectors with practical tools to embed financial literacy into their work. The result is a continuous learning ecosystem, linking individual growth with systemic impact.
