UPM says it is the only company in its sector to be listed among the leading companies in the 2025-6 global and European Dow Jones Sustainability Index, its second consecutive year among the world's top-performing companies.

The DJSI evaluates thousands of the world's largest companies based on their performance in the areas of environment, social responsibility, and corporate governance. The assessment is conducted as part of S&P Global’s corporate sustainability assessment, with only top-ranked companies in each sector included.

Marketing, sustainability and communications executive vice president Saara Tahvanainen says the recognition reflects consistent work across the entire company over many years. “UPM offers a broad portfolio of materials and solutions that hundreds of millions of people rely on every day,” she says. “The renewable fibres, advanced materials, and decarbonisation solutions we provide are transforming supply chains and laying the foundation for sustainable everyday choices.”

The assessment is based on “concrete, measurable targets and commitments”. UPM’s sustainability targets for 2030 include reducing fossil CO₂ emissions by 65per cent compared to 2015 and achieving 40 per cent female representation in specialist and management positions. UPM’s climate strategy rests on three pillars – forests, emissions reduction, and sustainable products – and follows a science-based approach aimed at limiting global warming to 1.5°C. UPM's sustainability performance is also recognised in several leading global ESG ratings and indices, including EcoVadis and CDP. These recognitions together strengthen trust among customers, investors, and the wider stakeholder community.
